Barley news USDA: World barley trade changes in 2005/2006

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) published on March 13 its latest forecast and estimation of world barley trade in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006:

2005/2006 Canada barley exports are expected by USDA to reach a 9-year peak, with strong shipments already to China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Canada barley export is raised by USDA by 300,000 tonnes to 2.3 million tonnes, a 9-year high, as large supplies have allowed very strong sales and shipments to date.

2005/2006 Russia barley export is up 500,000 tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes. Despite smaller production this year, exports have been strong in recent months, primarily to Middle Eastern markets, USDA commented.

2005/2006 Iran barley import is increased 400,000 tonnes to 1.2 million tonnes on continued strong purchases from Canada, EU-25, and Ukraine.

2005/2006 Syria barley import is up 300,000 tonnes to 800,000 tonnes as drought has slashed production to a 5-year low and the early season import pace has been strong.
